Trei Appoints Ivonne Mundil as New Head of Sustainability & ESG

Trei Real Estate GmbH (“Trei”), an international developer and asset manager for residential and retail real estate, has appointed Ivonne Mundil as its new Head of Sustainability & ESG. Working closely with Trei’s senior management, Mundil, a chartered engineer, developed the company’s ESG strategy and will be in charge of its implementation. At its heart, the ESG strategy is to proceed as follows: First, the ESG status of the real estate inventory is to be determined. To this end, all relevant data are to be collected. In the second step, targets for the further development of the portfolio are to be defined. Trei has a total of 237 existing properties in three different countries under management. By contrast, the first step for properties that Trei develops in its own right is to seek green-building certifications for all of them. In a parallel move, the company will continue to pursue a consistent digitisation strategy. This involves not least a more intense use of building information modelling (BIM). The team of Ivonne Mundil includes three other staff.

Ivonne Mundil commented: “I am very much looking forward to my new task. The real estate industry is undergoing a major transformation process whose long-term goal is climate neutrality. My role is to facilitate this transformation on the corporate level. I see myself as an initiator stimulating this change process but also as the power unit driving it.”

Pepijn Morshuis, CEO of Trei Real Estate, added: “We consider ESG a business opportunity. Ultimately, we want to take a forward-looking approach to ensure our business follows a sustainable long-term trajectory. We are not just responding to outside pressure from banks or investors. Rather, it matters to both the owners of Trei and to Trei’s senior management to have us well positioned along ESG lines. Trei is part of a family business. Tengelmann looks back on a 155-year history. So, we don’t think short-term but in terms of generations.”

Ivonne Mundil added: “Investment fund companies have made good progress with their ESG implementation whereas developers are just getting started on the subject. That is why we want to make Trei one of the leading developers in terms of ESG competence.”

Ivonne Mundil has been with Trei since 2014 in the role of Senior Construction Manager. In this position, she played a definitive role in the development of three mixed residential / retail buildings in Berlin in a combined volume of c. 200 million euros and around 540 residential units. Ivonne Mundil is a trained architect (chartered engineer) specialized in urban planning.
